at 14 William Kamkwamba from Malawi, Africa, was forced to drop out of school because his family could not afford the $80-a-year tuition; yet he continued to think, learn—and dream. he built a windmill that could bring his family the electricity only... two percent of Malawians could afford. Using scrap metal, tractor parts, and blue-gum trees, an unlikely hand-built contraption that would successfully power four light bulbs and two radios in his family’s compound. he learned physisics by looking at pictures, then translating each word in order to understand the text he needed.
a paper that says "you've graduated" means nothing. we, as americans, could be a lot more developed if we put more efforts into the well-being of society instead of wasting time making everything look pretty and taste good. then again, i'm an average college graduate, and all i care about is making a decent paycheck. fuck it.
